hyperx headset sounds muffled
I understand the theory why they thought it was a good idea but Windows never plays nice with it. It sounded muffled with 7.1 surround sound on OR off. It’s far more hassle than it’s worth. If you're still experiencing what you're describing as "muffled sound": Try connecting the headset to your PC directly using the 3.5mm jack and test to hear if it sounds the same or better/worse. The first thing I noticed is that they sound a little muffled: I don't know how to correctly explain this, but it's like when you are swimming and water gets in your ears, making every sound you perceive as if you were inside a bubble, maybe a little opaque too. I was tinkering with the sound output settings and noticed that there was a "HyperX Cloud Alpha S Chat" AND a "HyperX Cloud Alpha S Game" output. I switched it over to game, and the sound quality improved immediately. look for speaker icon bottom right next to date and time, right click on it go to sounds, then in playback look for your headset double click on it, in advanced you'll see default format, choose 24bit 48000hz studio quality if its there and it should be fine, if its already like that then contact hyperx because maybe you got a faulty one. Having these seperate sound devices is hands down one of the dumbest ideas any peripheral maker has ever had. There doesn’t seem to be any drivers to install. I had a pair of in-ear Sony Extrabass and none of these problems were encountered before: I could distinguish sounds coming from all the four directions without any problem or uncertainty.
